Ticket sales open for the Junior World Championships
Ticket sales open this week for the inaugural FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships held between 27 and 30 June 2019 in Győr, Hungary. The opening of the ticket sales period and the official promotional movie were announced and showcased at a press conference held in the City Hall in Győr.
Tickets for the Junior World Championships can be bought via the page jegymester.hu after the opening of the sales period. Ticket prices will be 500-1000 HUF (qualifications) and 2000 HUF (finals). Podium trainings on 25 and 26 June will be public with free access.
The press conference was attended by the mayor of the city of Győr, Zsolt Borkai; Zoltán Magyar, president of the Hungarian Gymnastics Federation; Sándor Altorjai, general secretary of the Hungarian Gymnastics Federation and Krisztián Berki, Olympic, World and European Champion gymnast. Magyar, Borkai and Berki all reached the “Grand Slam” in gymnastics, being Olympic, World and European Champions – quite a concentration of legends for the press conference!
“Junior World Championships in my beloved city in my beloved sport – that is something special. Győr has proud gymnastics traditions, and I hope that this event will help in shaping the future of gymnastics in the city as well. We would like to host even more big events in the future, so we need to organise the Junior Worlds in the highest level possible” – Borkai said.
“It’s a joy and huge honour for us that Hungary can host the inaugural Junior World Championships, and I am sure that we, together with the city of Győr will organise a memorable event for everyone” – Zoltán Magyar added.
Krisztián Berki pointed out that it is getting more and more difficult to guide youngsters towards sports, as they have so many things vying for their attention.
“Such huge international events mean a lot for the youngsters in gymnastics. The World Championship can bring a big positive push for Hungarian gymnastics, and I hope that the routines shown in Győr will convince children as well, so they will come to the gymnastics hall and choose this beautiful sport.”
Sándor Altorjai told that there has been considerable overseas interest in the Worlds.
“I’m getting requests for information from everywhere from South America to Australia, the interest is huge. It looks like the major overseas delegations will arrive a week before the event to Győr, where they can practice in one of the best training facilities of the world.”
The official promotional video for the Junior Worlds was showcased to the press – the video will be available on all official channels of the World Championships and can be embedded from the YouTube channel of MATSZ, (Hungarian Gymnastics Federation). The video features Youth Olympic Games medallist Krisztián Balázs and Hanna Szujó, member of the Hungarian junior women’s team. The promo tells a story starting at one of the popular playgrounds of Győr, ending at the gymnastics hall, where Balázs shows his pommel horse and Szujó her uneven bar skills.
It has been decided that the Hungarian federation buys the brand new apparatus used at the World Championships and improves the local gymnastics clubs’ infrastructure with that apparatus supply after the event. The official mascot of the World Championships will be Hugoo the Rooster (the rooster being the traditional symbol of the city of Győr since medieval times), "who" also served as a mascot for the European Youth Olympics Festival (EYOF). The 1st FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships is held between 27 and 30 June 2019 in the Western Hungarian city of Győr.
