No fear: Krisztián Balázs on the way back to full fitness for the Worlds
One of Hungary’s major hopes for the 1st FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships is Krisztián Balázs. The European Championships and Youth Olympic Games medallist competed with an injury at last year’s Youth Olympics, and is making a comeback for the inaugural Junior Worlds.
The foot injury that was causing problems to Krisztián Balázs is getting gradually better, and he is doing training work on floor and vault now, in addition to the other apparatus. The Hungarian coaching and medical staff do not want to rush him back to competition yet.
“He’s already been doing hard landings, and it seemed to me that there are no problems. It’s good news that he’s going full-on for sticking the landings now, we are very hopeful that he’ll be completely fit for the Worlds. Of course he missed quite a bit of work on vault and floor, so we shall not have huge expectations for the all-around competition, but he’s on the right way for parallel bars and horizontal bars” – technical director Jenő Puskás told the official homepage of the Junior Worlds.
2002 born Balázs was runner-up in the horizontal bar final at the 2018 Junior European Championships and medalled three times at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, coming 2nd on floor, 3rd on horizontal bar and winning the mixed team competition. He – together with Hanna Szujó – features in the promotional video for the Junior Worlds.
