The inaugural Junior World Artistic Championships has been opened!
A new chapter of sports history began with the opening ceremony of the inaugural FIG Junior World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Győr, Hungary. After Mr Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Mr Zsolt Borkai, Mayor of the City of Győr delivered their speeches, the very first Junior World Championships was opened by Mr Morinari Watanabe, President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). Dr Tünde Szabó, State Secretary for Sport and Krisztián Kulcsár, President of the Hungarian Olympic Committee were in attendance.
After the podium trainings on Tuesday and Wednesday the inaugural Junior World Artistic Gymnastics kicked off in earnest with the official opening ceremony, the oath of the participants and the men’s qualifications/team competition/all-around event.
At the opening ceremony Mr Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Main Patron of the Junior World Championships and Mr Zsolt Borkai, Mayor of the City of Győr delivered speeches before Mr Morinari Watanabe, President of the FIG declared the event open.
Mr Szijjártó said Hungary is proud to be the first and the host of the first Junior World Championships.
“Sports educates us on diligence, loyalty, respect, how to be committed citizens, how to win fairly and to handle losses as well.”
He added that Hungary sees sports as a strategic field and the best investment into the future.
Mr Borkai greeted the gymnasts of sixty-two countries and pointed out: this is the first opportunity to see the whole field of the international juniors together, who will write a chapter in sports history in the following days in the city of Győr.
